Perplexity Unveils AI Patent Directory To Simplify Innovation Search

AI search startup Perplexity has launched Perplexity Patents, a new tool designed to simplify how users find and analyze global patent information.

The feature, now in beta and free to use, aims to help engineers, researchers, and consumers easily identify prior inventions and track technological progress.

According to Jerry Ma, Perplexity’s vice president of policy and global affairs, the product allows users to query patent data “as easily as asking any question.”

The AI tool draws directly from official government databases, offering more reliable and detailed insights. It also scans academic papers and blogs to provide broader context on innovations.

Perplexity said it will gather user feedback to refine the tool before a full release. The company plans to maintain a free version, while Perplexity Pro subscribers will eventually receive expanded features and deeper search capabilities.
