According to Jerry Ma, Perplexity’s vice president of policy and global affairs, the product allows users to query patent data “as easily as asking any question.”
Perplexity Patents extends our citation-first approach to patent search, allowing users to search for patents without complicated keyword searches.

The AI tool draws directly from official government databases, offering more reliable and detailed insights. It also scans academic papers and blogs to provide broader context on innovations.
Perplexity said it will gather user feedback to refine the tool before a full release. The company plans to maintain a free version, while Perplexity Pro subscribers will eventually receive expanded features and deeper search capabilities.
