Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his retirement from international football, ending a 23-year career with Portugal that produced several historic records.
The 41-year-old confirmed his decision in an Instagram video, bringing an end to his record 234 appearances and 146 goals for the national team. His biggest achievements included winning the 2016 European Championship and the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025.
Despite the difficult conclusion, his contribution to Portuguese football remains significant. Ronaldo helped the country secure its first major international trophies.
He will continue playing for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, where he has scored 985 career goals and is approaching the 1,000-goal milestone.
