New York City police are investigating after possible human remains were discovered inside a chimney at the Anthony Pranzo School in the Glendale neighborhood of Queens.
The discovery was reported around 9 a.m. after an exterminator inspecting a foul odor inside the building found what appeared to be a shoe lodged in the chimney and alerted authorities.
Officers responded to the school and secured the area while investigators began examining the scene.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will analyze the remains to determine the cause of death and establish the identity of the individual.
Investigators have not released information on how long the remains may have been inside the chimney or whether foul play is suspected.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the discovery, and no further details have been released.
