President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the United States will step into Sudan’s brutal civil war at the request of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, calling the crisis “the single biggest humanitarian disaster on Earth.”

Speaking at the U.S.–Saudi Investment Forum in Washington, Trump said he had not planned to engage in Sudan before his lengthy Oval Office meeting with MBS, but is now directing his administration to pursue a peace push with regional allies.

The State Department has already been negotiating with both the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, urging a humanitarian ceasefire.

Trump’s remarks, paired with a new Truth Social post, framed the effort as a direct response to appeals from Arab leaders, including MBS, whom he praised as a “highly respected” partner.

Trump vowed to work with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and others to halt atrocities, stabilize Sudan and restore what he called a “great civilization gone bad.”
