The US private-sector employers added 90,000 jobs in September, exceeding expectations and signaling a rebound in hiring, according to ADP.
The increase followed a downwardly revised gain of 36,000 jobs in August and surpassed the 68,000 positions economists surveyed by Dow Jones had expected. Service businesses accounted for 59,000 new jobs, while goods-producing industries added 31,000.
ADP Chief Economist Nela Richardson said hiring had recovered after a three-month slowdown, while wage growth remained solid. Base pay increased 3.2% year over year.
The Northeast accounted for 56,000 new positions, while companies employing 50 to 499 workers added 54,000.
The report comes before Friday’s official employment data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Economists expect 84,000 jobs and an unemployment rate of 4.1%.
