Putin Condemns U.S. Oil Blockade On Cuba

Russian President Vladimir Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin sharply criticized the Trump administration’s oil restrictions on Cuba, calling the measures unacceptable as the island faces a deepening economic crisis.

Speaking during talks with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Putin said Russia rejects new sanctions and remains committed to supporting Cuba’s sovereignty, according to Russia’s Tass news agency.

Moscow has described Cuba’s fuel shortages as critical and said it is discussing possible assistance.

The comments follow U.S. actions that effectively cut Cuba off from Venezuelan oil after a January military operation aimed at removing Nicolás Maduro.

President Donald Trump has threatened tariffs on countries supplying oil to Havana and labeled Cuba a national security threat.

Cuba has begun rationing fuel and scaling back public services. The White House said major changes are needed as conditions on the island continue to deteriorate.
