Russian President Vladimir Putin is hardening his stance ahead of new U.S.-Ukraine peace talks, telling India Today that Russia will seize the Donbas region “by military or other means,” according to state outlet TASS.

The declaration underscores Moscow’s unchanged demand that Ukraine surrender territory Russia has illegally annexed but not fully captured.

Putin arrives in New Delhi after meeting a U.S. delegation led by special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner.

He said the discussions were lengthy and detailed but that Russia disagreed with several points in Washington’s latest proposal.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian negotiators Rustem Umerov and Andrii Hnatov are traveling to Miami for their own session with American officials. Kyiv continues to reject Russia’s territorial demands.

President Donald Trump said the U.S. delegation had a “very good meeting” with Putin, but no breakthrough has emerged.

Both sides describe the process as difficult, with territory remaining the central sticking point.
