A record 81.8 million Americans are expected to travel for Thanksgiving this year, according to a new AAA forecast. The group says travel between November 25 and December 1 will surpass pre-pandemic levels, climbing 1.6 million above last year.
About 90% of travelers will drive, reflecting steady fuel prices and lingering concerns about recent flight disruptions tied to the now-ended government shutdown.

Despite weeks of reduced air traffic, AAA projects 6.1 million Americans will fly, a 2% increase from 2024.
The Federal Aviation Administration lifted all shutdown-related flight restrictions on Sunday and restored normal airline schedules as of Monday at 6 a.m. EST, CBS News reported.
AAA says some passengers may still choose the highway over the airport after cancellations earlier this month.
About 73 million people are expected to drive, with car rentals 15% cheaper than last year. Gas prices remain stable at roughly $3.07 per gallon.
