Robert Redford, Hollywood Legend And Sundance Founder, Dies At 89

Robert Redford, the Oscar-winning actor and director who became a symbol of Hollywood’s golden age and later a champion of independent cinema, has died at 89. His publicist confirmed he passed away peacefully at his home in Utah.

Redford starred in classics such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, The Way We Were, and All the President’s Men. He won an Academy Award for directing Ordinary People in 1980.

Beyond acting, Redford reshaped American film by founding the Sundance Film Institute in 1981. The annual festival became the country’s most important showcase for independent filmmakers.

A vocal environmentalist, Redford also used his celebrity to promote liberal causes. His later career included roles in Avengers: Endgame and The Old Man & the Gun. He is survived by his wife, Sibylle Szaggars, and his family.
