Russia has released video footage showing the deployment of its nuclear-capable Oreshnik hypersonic missile system in Belarus, a move that would expand Moscow’s ability to strike targets across Europe.
Russian state media said the missiles have entered active service in Belarus, a close ally that borders Ukraine and NATO members including Poland and Lithuania.

President Vladimir Putin has claimed the Oreshnik missile is impossible to intercept due to its extreme speed.
The deployment comes amid heightened tensions over Russia’s war in Ukraine and would shorten flight times to European targets in a conflict, according to Reuters.
Western analysts say the move reflects Moscow’s growing reliance on nuclear threats to deter NATO support for Ukraine, though some U.S. officials have questioned the system’s battlefield impact.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko confirmed the deployment, saying fewer than a dozen missiles would be stationed.
Belarus has allowed Russian forces to operate from its territory but has not sent troops into Ukraine.
