Russian drone attacks have killed or left missing at least 30 merchant sailors in the Black Sea in recent weeks, turning a major commercial shipping route into a dangerous zone, according to CNN.

The strikes have targeted vessels linked to Ukrainian trade, including grain shipments. Several attacks occurred near Romanian and Bulgarian waters, raising concerns among NATO members. A container ship recently sank after being hit by drones near Romania.

Romania has increased coastal air patrols, while Bulgaria has requested NATO aircraft and anti-drone systems. Shipping activity has declined, and insurance costs have risen after the London-based Joint War Committee expanded its high-risk classification across the Black Sea.

The disruption threatens Ukraine's agricultural exports, which rely heavily on the waterway. Ukraine supplies significant shares of global wheat, maize and sunflower oil. Higher shipping costs and reduced traffic could therefore create wider risks for international food supplies.
