A Russian An-26 military transport aircraft crashed in Crimea, killing all 29 people on board, according to Russia’s defense ministry as reported by Reuters. The aircraft lost contact during a scheduled flight on Tuesday evening before slamming into a cliff in the region.

The report said the victims included six crew members and 23 passengers. Officials stated there were no survivors and ruled out external interference such as missiles or drones.

Authorities said a preliminary investigation points to a technical malfunction as the likely cause of the crash. A military commission has been dispatched to examine the site and determine the exact reason.

The An-26 is a long-serving transport aircraft widely used for military and cargo operations. The report noted the model has been involved in multiple fatal incidents in recent years.

The crash adds to concerns over aging military equipment and aviation safety in the region.
