Saudi Pledges Closer Partnership In Oil, Tech And AI With China

Saudi Arabia has pledged to deepen cooperation with China in oil, artificial intelligence, and advanced technology, even as Washington raises concerns about Beijing’s growing influence in the Gulf.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said stronger ties with China would bring “greater benefits” to both nations, according to China’s foreign ministry.

The move comes as the United States seeks to keep Riyadh aligned with Washington amid regional tensions and China’s expanding footprint.

Relations between the US and Saudi Arabia have improved since President Donald Trump returned to office, including new defense, nuclear energy, and AI agreements.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, visiting Riyadh this week, promised Beijing would be a “reliable partner” and pushed to accelerate long-running talks on a China Gulf free trade agreement.

China is now the Gulf bloc’s largest trading partner, with trade nearing $300 billion last year, according to regional data and Asia House.
