Secret Service Says Threats Against US Officials Hit Record High

Despite the heightened risks, the agency said it is confident in its security preparations for Friday's event.

The U.S. Secret Service says the threat environment facing President Donald Trump and other senior government officials has reached unprecedented levels, according to remarks by Director Sean Curran reported ahead of the rescheduled White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Curran said the agency has recorded its highest threat level in decades, while another senior official revealed that nearly 10,000 threats against government officials and Supreme Court justices have been identified in 2026, a 40% increase from the same period last year.

Despite the heightened risks, the agency said it is confident in its security preparations for Friday's event.

The report said the renewed focus on security follows an attempted attack at the original Correspondents' Dinner in April and a separate foiled drone plot targeting a June event attended by President Trump.

Officials also cited evolving drone technology as a growing challenge but said advanced countermeasures are being deployed. Trump said he feels safe despite the escalating security threats.
