Security Guarantees In Focus For Ukraine Peace Talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could be asked to trade land in return for “robust” security guarantees when he meets with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington.

Trump is reportedly planning to press Zelensky to surrender the entirety of the eastern Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in return for Russia freezing the rest of the front line – a proposal put forward by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Alaska summit.

Zelensky has consistently said Ukraine would not hand over the Donbas in exchange for peace.

Trump appeared to reverse his position on security guarantees after the summit, suggesting he was ready to join Europe in offering Ukraine military protection from future Russian attacks, the BBC said.
