Senate Democrats Demand Noem Testify Over ICE, CBP Killings

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem

Senate Democrats are demanding that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem testify without delay following the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis this month.

In a letter obtained by CBS, Democrats on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee said the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti require immediate congressional oversight.

Good was killed by an ICE officer on January 7, while Pretti was shot by Customs and Border Protection agents on January 24 during an enforcement operation.

Committee Chairman Rand Paul has scheduled agency heads to testify in February, but Democrats say Noem must appear personally as the leader of the Department of Homeland Security.

Lawmakers also criticized Noem’s public statements after Pretti’s death, citing discrepancies with later reports. Pressure is mounting as DHS funding talks continue ahead of a potential government shutdown.
