Senate Passes Russia, Iran Sanctions Bill Named After Lindsey Graham

The bill targets major purchasers of Russian oil and natural gas while expanding sanctions against senior Russian officials, their family members, and influential oligarchs.

The U.S. Senate has approved a broad sanctions package targeting Russia and Iran, passing the measure by an 86-11 vote.

According to the legislation, the 61-page Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 is named in honor of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham and seeks to increase economic pressure on Moscow and Tehran.

The bill targets major purchasers of Russian oil and natural gas while expanding sanctions against senior Russian officials, their family members, and influential oligarchs.

The report said the measure is intended to tighten financial restrictions on individuals and entities linked to the Russian government.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune said the legislation is designed to strengthen U.S. support for Ukraine and counter Russia's ongoing aggression.

The bill now moves to the next stage of the legislative process before it can become law.
