The Trump administration spent more than $30 million deporting migrants to third countries, with some removals costing over $1 million per person, according to a Democratic report from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
The report says the deals involved relatively small numbers of migrants and, in some cases, required paying twice to move people to a third country and then back to their home nation.
The findings outline agreements with more than 20 countries, including Rwanda, El Salvador, and Palau. Five governments reportedly received over $32 million combined, often in advance, to accept about 300 migrants.

The report also claims the administration relied on costly military aircraft for limited passenger flights.
The State Department defended the policy, saying it reflects firm enforcement that ended mass illegal immigration and improved public safety. Critics argue the strategy wastes taxpayer money and strains diplomatic ties while facing ongoing legal challenges.
