Seoul Dispatches Team To UAE As It Reviews Possible Hormuz Deployment

South Korea has sent a fact-finding team to the United Arab Emirates to assess security conditions around the Strait of Hormuz as Seoul considers possible military contributions amid ongoing regional tensions.

The Defense Ministry said Tuesday that no final deployment decision has been made and denied U.S. requests for military assets by November.

Officials are examining options ranging from combat involvement to noncombat and search operations.

Iran has warned South Korea against yielding to U.S. pressure, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei saying military participation in the Persian Gulf could have serious consequences.

Depending on the mission, any deployment could require parliamentary approval. Seoul said it will determine its response after assessing conditions and the scope of any potential operation.
