Shelved “60 Minutes” Segment Airs In Canada, Spreads Online

Bari Weiss

A shelved 60 Minutes segment blocked from airing in the United States reached a global audience after it was mistakenly streamed in Canada. Bari Weiss halted the report, titled “Inside CECOT,” citing concerns that it lacked on-camera responses from Trump administration officials.

The segment aired briefly on Global TV’s streaming platform before being removed. Clips spread rapidly online before Paramount issued takedown notices.

The report by correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi focused on Venezuelan men deported to El Salvador under President Donald Trump, who alleged abuse at the CECOT prison.

The segment included comments from Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, but not interviews.

Alfonsi said officials declined to participate. Human Rights Watch defended the reporting, while CBS said the Canadian stream occurred in error.
