Sotheby’s is preparing to auction a rare collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art that could generate $450 million or more, according to CNN.

The collection, assembled by Argentine businessman Carlos Pedro Blaquier and art patron Nelly Arrieta de Blaquier, includes two major works expected to challenge auction records.

Vincent van Gogh’s “Chataignier en fleurs roses et blanches” is estimated at $180 million, while Paul Cézanne’s “Arlequin” could fetch about $120 million. Both paintings have been privately held since the 1970s and have not been publicly seen for decades.

The collection also includes works by Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Sotheby’s describes it as one of the most significant remaining private collections from the period.

The sale follows several major private collection auctions that have supported the high-end art market in recent years. If both leading works establish new records, it would repeat a rare feat achieved during the 2022 sale of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s collection.

The auction is scheduled for November in New York.
