SpaceX is planning a new Starship launch complex in Pecan Island, Louisiana, as the company expands beyond its existing facility in Boca Chica, Texas.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry is expected to unveil the project Tuesday, calling it a major opportunity for the state's future.

State lawmakers have passed measures designed to attract aerospace investment as Louisiana competes with other Southern states. The project is expected to generate a construction boom and potentially create 3,000 or more permanent jobs.

The planned development is also raising infrastructure concerns. Local officials have questioned whether the area's power grid can support the project, while analysts say the region currently lacks sufficient hotel capacity for the anticipated workforce.

SpaceX wants multiple Starship launch locations to support its long-term goal of conducting thousands of launches annually. The Louisiana complex would therefore represent a significant expansion of the company's launch infrastructure and its broader Starship program.
