Speaker Johnson Eyes July 4 Passage For Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’

House Speaker Mike Johnson

House Speaker Mike Johnson said Monday that July 4 remains the target date for passing President Donald Trump’s sweeping “big beautiful bill,” even as Senate Republicans weigh revisions to the narrowly passed House package.

Speaking alongside Trump at a White House roundtable with business leaders, Johnson urged the Senate to make only modest changes. “We’ve got a very delicate balance that we reached,” he said, warning against upsetting the fragile House coalition.

Trump echoed the optimism, telling reporters, “I think it’s gonna go pretty quickly.”

The bill faces resistance from some conservatives, including Elon Musk, who slammed it last week as “a disgusting abomination” and called on Republicans to block it.

Senators John Boozman (R-Ark.) and Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) are expected to brief colleagues Wednesday on key portions of the legislation. Johnson noted ongoing talks with Senate GOP Leader John Thune, saying he remains “very optimistic.”
