Iran reported that four oil tankers struck mines in the Strait of Hormuz, while Yemen’s Houthi forces claimed attacks on Saudi targets, raising concerns about renewed conflict in the Middle East.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said three vessels caught fire near the Omani coast, while the army reported a fourth incident. The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency separately confirmed an attack involving explosive devices that caused an engine-room fire. The crew was reported safe.
Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance has approached Iranian officials through Qatari mediators to explore negotiations. Trump said he had approved Vance’s diplomatic outreach.
The Strait carries roughly one-fifth of global energy supplies. Shipping activity has fallen sharply since fighting began in February, intensifying concerns over disruptions to international oil markets.
