Federal authorities have arrested and transferred to the United States a suspect accused of taking part in the 2012 terrorist attack on U.S. facilities in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said the FBI captured Zubayar al-Bakoush overseas and brought him to the U.S. to face justice.

Al-Bakoush is charged with seven federal counts, including murder, attempted murder, arson, and providing material support to terrorists.

Prosecutors allege he was a member of Ansar al-Sharia and participated in the assault on the U.S. diplomatic compound on September 11, 2012, where Ambassador Chris Stevens and Sean Smith were killed.

A later mortar attack on a nearby CIA annex claimed the lives of Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty.

The arrest was announced alongside FBI Director Kash Patel and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro. Officials said the investigation remains active and more arrests are possible.
