Tech Giants Join Federal AI Security Initiative

The Trump administration is expanding federal oversight of artificial intelligence by partnering with major tech firms to evaluate AI models before public release, according to a report by CNBC.

The Center for AI Standards and Innovation, under the U.S. Department of Commerce, announced agreements with Google DeepMind, Microsoft and xAI. The initiative will conduct pre-deployment testing to assess advanced AI capabilities and security risks.

The report said the effort builds on earlier agreements with OpenAI and Anthropic. Officials are also considering a broader AI oversight framework, including a potential working group of government and industry leaders.

Discussions intensified after Anthropic introduced a powerful AI model with cybersecurity capabilities, prompting meetings with administration officials. The White House has not confirmed any executive order but said policy decisions will come directly from President Donald Trump.
