Tesla and SpaceX have formed special committees of independent directors to explore a potential merger, Elon Musk announced, while noting that conflicts of interest prevent him from participating in the process.
The companies have increasingly collaborated on chips, robotics and connectivity, prompting discussions about a formal combination. Such a deal would unite two businesses with enormous valuations, with SpaceX valued at more than $2 trillion and Tesla at nearly $1.5 trillion.
Barclays previously suggested a merger announcement could come before Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting on December 3, 2026. However, Musk emphasized that the committees have not agreed on deal terms, leaving the potential combination uncertain.
