It’s only a Wednesday. One month into Trump 2.0. And yet… Elite liberal media goobers are kicking and screaming through one of their worst weeks ever. It shouldn’t come as a surprise since beltway journalists somehow manage to discredit and make a mockery of themselves nearly every day of every single week. But these past few days feel a bit different, and maybe that’s because they were severely lacking joy.
MSNBC finally decided to ax its ratings albatross, Joy Reid’s 7 p.m. primetime show, “The ReidOut.” It took the network long enough, and Reid, of course, appeared to blame racism in a tear-soaked Zoom call after news broke of her firing Sunday. Other culture warrior liberals cried racism in the wake of the cancellation, though they failed to mention that one of Reid’s temporary replacements will be none other than Symone Sanders, who also happens to be black and, erm, bald.
Tuesday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt smashed the self-esteem of every establishment White House reporter who dreams of saving democracy while sipping fancy cocktails and thinking they are better than everyone else. Leavitt announced that the Trump press team, not the White House Correspondents’ Association (WCHA), will determine which media outlets join the 13-member press pool to cover more intimate events with the president. In a huge win for independent, anti-establishment outlets, the new policy effectively busts the WCHA and corporate media’s monopoly on White House coverage.
Then it was The Washington Post’s turn, because what’s a no good, very bad week in media without some juicy WaPo drama? Jeff Bezos, perhaps sensing the changing tide among D.C. Republicans who are growing more and more receptive to tariffs and the threat that it might pose to Amazon’s business model, announced Wednesday that his paper’s opinion section will defend “two pillars: personal liberties and free markets.”
“We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets. We’ll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others,” Bezos said. “There was a time when a newspaper, especially one that was a local monopoly, might have seen it as a service to bring to the reader’s doorstep every morning a broad-based opinion section that sought to cover all views. Today, the internet does that job.”
He also announced that The Washington Post’s opinion editor, David Shipley, had resigned.
Jeff Stein, a WaPo economics reporter, was outraged over Bezos’s decision, calling it a “massive encroachment,” even though Bezos is the paper’s owner after all, and promised to resign should the Amazon billionaire encroach some more on the newsroom. Color me skeptical that Stein and other WaPo staffers, utterly shaken by the editorial changes, will resign anytime within the next year, let alone month. As is the case with many journalists upset with their own employers, they usually suffer brief public meltdowns, replete with spasms of rage and virtue-signaling, before they settle back into their cushy jobs and receive their next paycheck.
In what amounts to a quiet doozy for all of corporate media, Axios reporter Alex Thompson, perhaps one of the only establishment D.C. journalists who actually covered President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline and the years-long cover-up, announced Wednesday that his new book exploring the scandal will be released in May.
Interestingly, Jake Tapper is a co-author. Wait … this Jake Tapper? The CNN guy who once got testy on air because his guest, Lara Trump, was questioning Biden’s mental faculties?
Yes, that Jake Tapper. Somehow, the famous anchor managed to hitch his wagon to Thompson’s new book in a desperate attempt to whitewash his participation in one of the worst presidential/media scandals in modern politics: the big, fat Biden lie. And, unfortunately for every other liberal corporate journalist — literally all of them, who for four years either were too thick or too cynical to report on Biden’s melting brain — they will have to own the scandal of their own making.
And it’s only Wednesday.
