The Walt Disney Company has named Josh D’Amaro as its next chief executive, ending years of uncertainty over leadership succession. D’Amaro, who has led Disney’s parks and experiences division since 2020, will replace Bob Iger on March 18.

Iger, 74, will remain a senior adviser and board member through the end of his contract on December 31.

Disney also announced that television executive Dana Walden will become president and chief creative officer, a newly created role reporting to D’Amaro.

The appointment highlights Disney’s growing reliance on theme parks and cruises, which have delivered strong revenue and expansion plans.

The company is investing heavily in new resorts and ships as demand for in-person entertainment rises.

Disney’s board said the transition follows its annual meeting and marks a new chapter for the company.
