Toyota Motor posted record global vehicle sales of 10.54 million units in 2025, retaining its position as the world’s largest automaker for a sixth straight year, according to company data.

Sales rose 3.7 percent from the prior year, supported by strong demand in North America, Japan, Africa, and India.

The milestone came despite auto tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. The United States raised duties on Japanese auto imports earlier in 2025 before lowering them following a bilateral trade agreement. Toyota’s U.S. sales still climbed 8 percent, with hybrid vehicles driving much of the growth.

North America accounted for 28 percent of Toyota’s global sales. Hybrids made up 42 percent of all vehicles sold worldwide, underscoring the company’s strategy amid rising competition from Chinese automakers.

Toyota also outpaced Volkswagen, which sold 8.98 million vehicles in 2025.
