Trump Administration Begins Border Wall Construction In Big Bend

The Trump administration has begun installing border wall panels across a 47-mile stretch of Hudspeth County, Texas, in the remote Big Bend region.

Customs and Border Protection said construction of the project, known as Big Bend 1, is part of a broader initiative to expand barriers along the nearly 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border.

The administration has allocated $46 billion for border barrier construction as it seeks to fulfill President Donald Trump’s campaign promise to expand the wall. CBP said crews are currently constructing an average of about 12 miles of barriers each week and have completed roughly 200 miles of new barriers since the administration took office.

The project faces legal opposition. Texas landowners and the Big Bend Wall Coalition have sued the administration, arguing that waiving federal environmental requirements for the construction is unlawful and asking a court to halt the work.

Opponents say they will continue challenging the project. The administration, meanwhile, is proceeding with construction as part of its broader border-security program.
