The Trump administration has revoked the U.S. visa of Brazil's ambassador in what officials described as a reciprocal response to diplomatic actions taken by the Brazilian government.
According to the report, the decision follows Brazil's refusal last month to grant visas to two American diplomats and its delay in approving President Donald Trump's nominee for U.S. ambassador to Brasilia.
The report said U.S. officials postponed the visa revocation several times in an effort to give Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula an opportunity to reverse his government's position.
The administration indicated that the measure could still be withdrawn if Brazil proceeds with approving the ambassadorial nomination.
The latest move reflects broader tensions between the Trump administration and Lula's left-leaning government.
The report said the diplomatic dispute comes as Brazil prepares for the October 4 election, where Lula is set to face Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, adding a political dimension to the already strained relationship between the two countries.
