President Donald Trump is downplaying the renewed interest in the Jeffrey Epstein case, calling it “nothing” and accusing Democrats of fueling the controversy.
Posting early Thursday on Truth Social, Trump asked: “If there was a ‘smoking gun’ on Epstein, why didn’t the Dems, who controlled the ‘files’ for four years...use it? Because they had nothing!!!”
The comment comes amid intensifying pressure from Trump’s own base. MAGA-aligned activists and GOP lawmakers, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, are demanding transparency. Trump has called his critics “weaklings” and “stupid people,” revealing deepening cracks within his coalition.
In a late-night move, Trump directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to pursue the release of grand jury testimony related to Epstein’s sex-trafficking case. The president also denied reports he contributed a sketch of a nude woman to Epstein’s 50th birthday album, calling it “fake” and threatening to sue The Wall Street Journal.
