President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of ending Elon Musk’s DOGE project, after only 130 days. Trump suggested that his Cabinet secretaries had learned enough from Musk’s efficiency efforts and were ready to continue the work without his input, Trump said during a briefing in the Oval Office.

A lot of the people that are working with DOGE are the secretaries — you know, the heads of the various agencies — and they’ve learned a lot. There will be a point at which the secretaries will be able to do this work and do it, as we say, with a scalpel.

The project, which aims at streamlining government operations, has drawn mixed feedback from both ends of the political aisle. Trump noted that while some of Musk’s staff may remain, the secretaries would soon be able to operate with more precision, using a "scalpel" rather than Musk’s "chainsaw" approach.

Even Elon Musk, in an interview earlier this month, said, "I really haven't been involved in politics until recently, I really just wanted to build technology. But I came to the conclusion that we're really at a fork in the road of destiny of America and the western world, perhaps of civilization as a whole."
