President Donald Trump has announced new tariffs ranging from 10 percent to 12.5 percent on imports from 60 trading partners, replacing temporary 10 percent duties that are set to expire at 12:01 a.m. on Friday.
According to the report, the affected countries account for nearly 99 percent of total U.S. imports.
Officials argued the measures are aimed at strengthening trade enforcement and promoting fair competition.
The report said the new tariffs are being implemented under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 after the U.S. Supreme Court invalidated the administration's earlier tariffs imposed under emergency powers.
The Trump administration has also indicated that additional trade measures could follow. The U.S. Trade Representative is continuing a separate investigation into industrial overproduction involving 16 countries, which could lead to further import duties in the coming months.
