President Donald Trump has announced a formal U.S. trade investigation into the European Union, accusing the bloc of unfairly targeting American technology companies through antitrust penalties.
According to the report, the move follows a $1 billion fine imposed on Google and broader regulatory actions involving companies such as Apple, Meta and Amazon.
The report said the administration plans to conduct the investigation under Section 301 of the Trade Act, which allows the United States to take action against foreign practices deemed unjustifiable or harmful to American commerce.
Trump also warned that substantial tariffs could be imposed on imports from the 27-member bloc if the investigation finds evidence supporting those claims.
The announcement comes a day after the White House unveiled new double-digit tariffs on imports from more than 60 trading partners, signaling a continued expansion of the administration's trade enforcement strategy.
