President Donald Trump will meet New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani at the White House on Friday, their first face-to-face since Mamdani’s sweeping victory earlier this month.

The meeting comes after sharp campaign clashes, including Trump labeling him a “communist” and threatening to cut federal funding to the city.
Mamdani denies the charge and says he aims to focus on affordability, transit access, and lowering living costs.
The mayor-elect has been preparing with top Democrats, including Gov. Kathy Hochul and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Trump’s team says the president is willing to meet with anyone, though officials declined to say whether he will reverse his threats.
Despite the political friction, Mamdani sees the meeting as a necessary step to build a functional relationship between New York and Washington. The Oval Office session is set for 3 p.m. ET.
