President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), EJ Antoni, has suggested suspending the agency’s monthly jobs report until data accuracy improves.
In a Fox Business interview, Antoni recommended publishing only quarterly data, which is typically more accurate, until monthly reporting can be corrected.
Antoni argued that inaccurate figures undermine confidence for decision-makers from Wall Street to Washington.

His comments follow unusually large downward revisions in the May and June jobs reports. May’s total was reduced by 120,000 jobs, and June’s by 133,000.
The BLS, which has tracked monthly revisions since 1979, implemented a new sampling method in 2003. While this improved accuracy slightly, Antoni insists more reforms are needed before reliable monthly data can resume.
