Donald Trump on Tuesday paid tribute to civil rights leader Jesse Jackson following Jackson’s death at age 84, calling him a “force of nature like few others.” Trump extended condolences to Jackson’s family and praised his personality, determination, and lifelong commitment to public causes.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he knew Jackson for decades and had supported the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, which Jackson founded.

The president highlighted policies from his administrations that he said Jackson backed, including criminal justice reform, increased funding for historically Black colleges and universities, and Opportunity Zones created under the 2017 tax law.

Trump noted that Jackson deeply valued family and community and said his impact would be long remembered. Jackson’s family said he died peacefully after dealing with a neurodegenerative condition.

Trump and Jackson crossed paths repeatedly over the years, appearing together at public events and business initiatives dating back to the late 1980s and 1990s.
