President Donald Trump welcomed Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi’s decision to launch a grand jury investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia collusion narrative, calling it “well deserved.”
Speaking on CNBC’s Squawk Box, Trump emphasized he had no role in initiating the probe. “Pam is doing a great job,” he said. “I was happy to hear it.”
The grand jury will examine whether former Obama administration officials misused intelligence and misled the public to falsely link Trump’s 2016 campaign to Russian actors.
White House spokesman Harrison Fields said the investigation aims to expose how “former government officials worked to sabotage the Trump administration and subvert our Constitutional Republic.”
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard referred the case in late July, citing declassified intelligence that found no evidence of Russian interference in election infrastructure. “The American people were sold a lie,” Gabbard said.
Speculation swirls around possible targets, including John Brennan, James Clapper, and James Comey.
