President Donald Trump has reversed a Pentagon plan to livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan, the US Army psychiatrist convicted of killing 13 people and wounding dozens in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, according to CNN.
Trump said Thursday that Hasan’s scheduled December 3 execution by firing squad would proceed at Fort Hood, but would not be broadcast publicly. He added that victims’ immediate families would be allowed to witness the execution in person.
Public opposition was also substantial. An ABC News, Washington Post and Ipsos poll released Thursday found that 80% of US adults, including 64% of Republicans, opposed livestreaming the execution.
The execution would be the Army’s first firing squad execution since World War II.
