President Donald Trump said the United States is not at war with Venezuela and will not allow new elections there in the next 30 days, following the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, according to an interview with NBC News.
Trump said Venezuela must first be stabilized before any vote can take place. He also outlined plans for U.S. backed oil companies to rebuild the country’s energy infrastructure, potentially subsidized by Washington and repaid through future revenue.

The president said the U.S. is fighting drug trafficking and illegal migration, not the Venezuelan state. He named Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other senior officials to oversee policy but said final authority rests with him.
Maduro pleaded not guilty in a New York court after being seized during a U.S. raid in Caracas. Trump warned that further military action remains an option if cooperation falters.
