President Donald Trump said Venezuela’s interim authorities will sell between 30 million and 50 million barrels of oil to the United States, days after U.S. forces captured former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. Trump said the oil would be sold at market prices and shipped directly to U.S. ports.

In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump said he directed Energy Secretary Chris Wright to execute the plan immediately.

He added that proceeds from the oil sales would be controlled by his administration and used to benefit both countries.

Trump has said Venezuela’s vast oil reserves will play a central role in rebuilding the country after years of economic collapse under Maduro. He has also warned interim leader Delcy Rodríguez to align with U.S. interests or face consequences.

Energy analysts cautioned that Venezuela’s degraded infrastructure and political instability could limit near-term production gains. Oil prices are not expected to be affected immediately.

The White House is also planning meetings with major U.S. oil companies, including Exxon, Chevron, and ConocoPhillips.
