President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his administration’s hardline trade stance, declaring that new tariffs on foreign goods will begin on August 1, 2025, without exceptions.
In a post on Truth Social Tuesday, Trump stated, “Tariffs will start being paid on August 1, 2025. There has been no change to this date, and there will be no change.” He emphasized that letters announcing the tariffs had already been sent to multiple countries and that more would follow in the coming days.

The announcement follows earlier White House disclosures that 14 countries, including Japan and South Korea, were notified of impending 25 percent tariffs on their exports to the United States. Trump has characterized the measures as part of a broader effort to end what he calls unfair trade imbalances and protect American workers.
“This is a critical deadline,” a senior administration official said Tuesday. “The president intends to follow through.”
