Trump Snubs South Africa As Poland Gains Spotlight In G20 Shake-Up

The Trump administration does not plan to invite South Africa to participate in next year’s G20 events hosted in the United States, a source told CNN.

The move would be unprecedented in the forum’s two-decade history and follows a year of collapsing U.S.–South Africa relations.

Washington boycotted the 2025 G20 meeting in South Africa after accusing Pretoria of discriminating against White South Africans, allegations South Africa rejected.

Instead, the administration intends to elevate Poland’s role at the 2026 G20 gatherings. Poland, whose president maintains close ties with President Donald Trump, has openly sought full membership and was previously invited by Trump to the summit set for December 2026 at his Doral resort in Florida.

South Africa said it has heard the speculation but has not received formal notice. The rupture comes after the U.S. expelled South Africa’s ambassador and suspended aid earlier this year, deepening tensions as Pretoria ended its G20 chairmanship without a U.S. handoff.
