‘Trump Strait’: US President Proposes Renaming Strait Of Hormuz

President Donald Trump has floated renaming the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz after himself, according to CNBC.

Trump raised the idea Wednesday in a Truth Social post, asking whether the waterway should become the “Trump Strait” following claims that the United States has gained control of the passage during the war with Iran.

The proposal follows Trump’s recent efforts to rename other major geographic features, including Lake Ontario and the Gulf of Mexico. It remains unclear how Washington could impose a new name on the international waterway, which lies outside U.S. territory.

The Strait of Hormuz remains crucial to global energy markets. Before the war, roughly 20 million barrels of crude oil and petroleum products moved through the waterway each day. However, shipping traffic has fallen sharply during the conflict.

The Trump administration says regional oil exports remain strong because Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates can use pipelines that bypass the strait. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said more than 17 million barrels crossed Hormuz Monday, a wartime record.
