President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy will serve as the interim administrator of NASA.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump praised Duffy’s work in transportation and infrastructure, highlighting his efforts to modernize air traffic control and rebuild the nation’s roads and bridges.
“He will be a fantastic leader of the ever more important Space Agency, even if only for a short period of time,” Trump wrote.

The surprise move places Duffy temporarily at the helm of the space agency amid growing focus on U.S. space dominance and Trump’s broader plans for technological innovation. Duffy, a former congressman, has no formal aerospace background but has earned Trump’s trust in executing key domestic projects.
The administration did not specify how long Duffy will remain in the role or whether a permanent NASA administrator will be nominated soon.
The decision drew mixed reactions from scientific and political communities.
