The controversy prompted the resignations of BBC Director-General Tim Davie and BBC News Chief Deborah Turness, while BBC Chair Samir Shah issued a public apology.
The dispute has deepened political divisions in Britain, with conservatives accusing the BBC of bias and liberals defending it as an essential public institution.
Trump’s legal team said the edit defamed him, marking his latest in a series of lawsuits and threats against major media outlets, including CNN and The New York Times.
