President Donald Trump confirmed Friday that the United States will impose a 50% tariff on all goods from the European Union starting June 1, unless companies manufacture in the U.S. Trump said he is not interested in negotiating a new trade deal with the EU, calling it “too slow-moving” and insisting the tariff is already “the deal.”
“There’s no tariff if they build their plant here,” Trump said, suggesting some flexibility for firms planning U.S.-based production. He added that temporary delays might be possible during plant construction.

In a post on Truth Social earlier in the day, Trump slammed the EU for creating powerful trade barriers. “Our discussions with them are going nowhere,” he wrote. “Therefore, I am recommending a straight 50% Tariff on the European Union.”
