Trump Targets Lawyers Filing 'Frivolous' Lawsuits Against His Administration

Donald Trump via Truth Social

President Donald Trump has issued a new memo empowering the Attorney General and Homeland Security Secretary to sanction law firms that file lawsuits deemed "frivolous." The presidential memorandum, titled “Preventing Abuses of the Legal System and the Federal Court,” goes further by instructing Attorney General Pam Bondi to consider revoking security clearances or terminating federal contracts for law firms engaged in "unreasonable" litigation against the administration.

This action follows previous executive orders targeting three prominent law firms: Covington & Burling, Perkins Coie, and Paul Weiss. These firms have been involved in legal work related to special counsel investigations and political campaigns, which have antagonized Trump. The orders have already led to suspensions of security clearances and restricted access to federal buildings, with potential consequences for their clients’ federal contracts.
